Meeting RELIENT K!

I finally got to meet one of my ALL-TIME favourite bands and love of my life, Matthew Thiessen Relient K!!

It wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t made these posters to win VIP tickets and a Meet & Greet with them!
(I eventually printed two copies; one for them and one for me to keep with their autographs 🙂 I wish I printed larger copies, though!)

“Oh, you’re a designer? :)” – Hoopes

*SQUEALS*

I originally was just designing the first one (left), pegging the album artwork of their latest record, Collapsible Lung. But I just got inspired to play around with it more and eventually came up with the other two 🙂 This has been, by far – the quickest and most fun I had with designing posters! I guess my whispered prayer of having them over being granted helped a lot 😉

*** P.S. guys of Relient K, if you are reading this blog from the letter i gave to you… you probably know this already but it was an absolute dream come true to finally meet you! Please come back soon (with Warne and Schneck and Douglas!) ❤ ***

BridgeBox is delighted to introduce you to the work of designer Hannah Salla.  This Philippines-based artist produces some of the sharpest graphics we’ve seen, and we can’t wait for you to see these wallpapers – custom designed for this month’s BridgeBox, to help you memorize a critical passage of Scripture.  Load them on your computer, phone, or tablet, and get down with the goodness.

Check out more of Hannah’s work at http://artbeatsmath.tumblr.com/

The Caricature Project: Girls on Fire

I’ve always wanted to do cartoonized versions of people in my life and I finally got ‘round to it with this! Meet the girls from my D-group, “Girls on Fire”!

girls on fire…and me!

I’d say this is more of a drawing practice, really. I’m still heavily influenced by Pokemilk‘s style.

The Process

Individually sketched in pencil (but didn’t ink with pen) then scanned, because I wanted to work on the details as vectors on Illustrator. True enough, I spent several hours just tweaking us to look as close as possible to our real selves (notice the differences between this first draft and the final output). It’s then painted + textures added in Photoshop. The background is from Friday Night Light.

I’m no illustrator but I really had fun doing this!

P.S. would anyone care to donate a pen tablet for me? :))

stellar magazine

Some pages off my individual magazine project entitled “Stellar” back in late 2010. 90% of the whole thing (copy, photos, styling, layout) was done by me– I clearly remember spending about 3 sleepless nights (with The Sleep Design, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs on loop) compiling and finishing the layouts, printing, then submitting right before the deadline.

The next day my family went on our first trip to Boracay… and I totally just crashed and snoozed in my beach chair.

Good times.

Be humble | Be noble

Made this photomanip, inspired by the Serbian proverb:

Be humble, for you are made of earth.
Be noble, for you are made of stars.

I think it’d be a neat idea to have them printed back to back as notecards of some kind. What do you think?
